All of the major wind turbine manufacturers offer long-term warranty and maintenance packages for 5 to 15 years (depends on turbine size and manufacturer) which we would always recommend using. The other significant cost to operate wind turbines to consider are business rates and insurance.
There are all sorts of subtleties to how these costs are calculated, but at a very basic level the table below will give a good indication of the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) costs for a single wind turbine. For multiple-turbines just scale-up the figures below.
|Maximum Power Output||Typical Turbine Type||Annual O&M* Cost|
|55 kW||Endurance E-3120||£3.6k|
|500 kW||EWT DW52/54 or Enercon E53/48/44||£26k|
|800 kW||Enercon E53/48/44||£41k|
|1.5 MW||GE 1.5sl||£71k|
|2 – 3 MW1||Enercon E82||£102k|

Want to install a wind turbine?
If you are in the UK then take our Wind Site Self-Assessment - Step 1 of our modular Windpower Feasibility Study. It takes about 20 minutes to work through the basic checks to see if your site might be suitable, including:
- Estimating wind speed
- Checking proximity of nearby properties
- Checking site access and approach roads
- Investigating connection with the grid
