The government are trying to encourage community energy schemes whereby the community as a whole benefit for local distributed energy generation for generations to come. Renewables First can help get your community energy scheme off the ground and work with you to deliver the project and realise the benefits of low carbon energy for your community.
The UK government launched their Community Energy Strategy on the 27th January 2014. Full and summarised versions of the strategy are available for download from here.
The strategy is quite ambitious and well thought out and the document makes interesting background reading. It doesn’t only focus on the generation of renewable energy, but also covers energy efficiency, better management of supply and demand and collective purchasing of energy.
A number of aspects of the strategy are still being formulated and a lot of work is still ongoing, so if you are interested keep an eye out for updates on the main webpage (where the strategy is downloaded from above).
Want to install a wind turbine?
If you are in the UK then take our Wind Site Self-Assessment - Step 1 of our modular Windpower Feasibility Study. It takes about 20 minutes to work through the basic checks to see if your site might be suitable, including:
- Estimating wind speed
- Checking proximity of nearby properties
- Checking site access and approach roads
- Investigating connection with the grid
