The new UK government has committed to doubling onshore wind energy by 2030 and had already removed the 2015 de facto ban in July 2024. The new National Planning Policy Framework was released at the end of 2024 with immediate effect and provides a significantly more supportive planning framework for all renewables projects including onshore wind (read full policy here).
This change removes the last element of doubt that onshore wind is ‘do-able’ and Renewables First already have a number of ‘live’ planning application for onshore wind projects in hand.
This could be a real case of first mover advantage as any other sites close to you that submit a wind turbine planning application more quickly will get an advantage which may scupper your plans. We also have experience of full turnkey projects completed before the de facto ban.
