The Dovestone hydro turbine house structure is now well underway. Designed by Renewables First, the hydro turbine house will be a triple-layered construction, with each layer serving a specific function. Most of the turbine house will be below ground level, and this is currently where all activity is focused.
So how will it look? At ground level there will be a loading platform only (the construction of which can be seen in the main picture above) and an access stairway down to the turbine chamber.
Going down yet another level to beneath the turbine chamber, the turbine house sump and culvert (connecting the sump and stilling basin) will be located.
The construction of the hydro turbine house forms a major part of the project works. Once completed, the mechanical and electrical components of the scheme can be installed. This will initially include the Crossflow turbine, generator and the penstock connection, but soon after followed by the electrical, control and telemetry equipment.
