The site is now settled in, the bankside vegetation is established, and the area of land which has now become an island has become something of a nature refuge.
Pershore Weir – 224 kW Twin Archimedes Screws
Institute of Civil Engineers Award for Pershore Weir hydro scheme
Renewables First picks up two prestigious West Midlands Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) awards in recognition of its recently completed hydro scheme at Pershore Weir.
Hydro scheme commissioned at Pershore Weir
The Pershore Weir twin Archimedean screw hydropower scheme, designed and installed by Renewables First, was successfully commissioned on 20th August 2014 by Spaans Babcock. The scheme has since won an Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) award for innovation.
Pershore Leisure Centre Hydro Powered
One of the technical challenges of this project is getting electricity from the turbine house to the point of consumption at Pershore leisure centre on the opposite side of the river some distance away.
Hydro inlet channel incorporates special erosion control measures
Before allowing water to fill the inlet channel, work was undertaken to prevent erosion of its banks over time, as well as encourage plant growth.
Archimedes screw installation due at Pershore Weir
Construction works at Pershore Weir have now proceeded to the point where the Archimedean Screw installation can commence.
Archimedes hydro turbines arrive at Pershore Weir
With work on the turbine house progressing apace, the two Archimedes hydro turbines arrive in tandem at Pershore Weir.
Pershore Weir hydro scheme commences
Given that the Archimedean Screws will sit adjacent to the main weir, water from the River Avon will be diverted to and away from the turbines via specially excavated inlet and outlet channels.
Screw turbines for Pershore hydro scheme
Renewables First design a Twin Arcimedean Screw hydro system that will generate 848,000 kWh’s of electricity per year, equivalent to powering 200 UK homes and annually offsetting 3,601 tonnes CO2.
Archimedes Screws for Pershore Weir hydro scheme
Renewables First are commissioned to provide a turnkey package to specify and design the Twin Archimedean Screw hydroelectric system, secure the appropriate consents and project manage the construction, installation and commissioning of the hydro system.
