Details of the proposed Freemans Reach development in the centre of historic Durham went on display to the public today, including details of the 100 kW Archimedean Screw hydro system that is being designed and installed by Renewables First.

The Archimedean Screw hydro system will provide 80% of the building’s electricity requirements which will help it achieve and Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) ‘A’ rating and BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating.  The system will also include a new all-species Larinier fish pass and eel pass.  See the picture below of a model of the proposed development, complete with a model Archimedean Screw in the foreground!
